Gaming subreddits and their choice of words
While gaming one sometimes can get a little bit angry and thus choose words normally only present in ones passive vocabulary. To check how people in different gaming communities talk, about 545k randomly chosen comments to about 25k submissions from 2013-08 to 2014-07 on /r/ouya, /r/pcgaming and /r/ps4, /r/wiiu and /r/xboxone were collected and analysed for frequency of specific words and phrases.
Let’s start with something not very unexpected. The Wii is supposed to be entertaining at parties. This also reflects in the fact that Wii users use the word “party” much more than the others.
PC gamers on the other side seem to be much more concerned with technical details of their gaming experience like frame rates etc. which probably is rooted in having much more influence on it with hardware and configuration tweaks.
Additionally PC gamers use swear words the most, but the differences are not that big.
Errors and bug fixes seem to hit the ouya people quite often, while Wii users seem to have less problems with this.
Nevertheless the ouya gamers show the most expression of joy, so all these errors probably are not that bad after all, or …
… or it is their controller that makes them happy. At least they talk about it all the time. ;)
Finally we look at how often the communities mention each other.

Xbox users talk nearly twice as much about the playstation than vice versa. The Wii is not much talked about by others and It looks like many people do not even know about ouya or ignore it completely.
That’s it. If you want to you can download the raw data all these diagrams are based on.
